After months of online and live event virtual driving, Nissan has announced the 25 national GT Academy finalists set to rip up Kyalami this weekend. It came down to one final event for the online qualifiers, who had two weeks to put in their best time in a Tuned Nissan 370Z.
Eight players have already been selected to take part in the national finals by qualifying fastest at each of the live events held around the country. The 16 fastest online qualifiers will join the other eight for this weekend where they will all undergo a series of challenges including more Gran Turismo 5 gaming, real world driving, media interviews and physical fitness tests.
On Sunday 27th January the field will be whittled down to just eight participants that will represent South Africa at Silverstone race circuit. They will take on the finalists from the Middle East where one GT Academy winner will be announced and that lucky winner will go on to become a race driver in the Nissan driver academy, participating internationally as a fully fledged race driver.
TopCar’s very own online editor Ashley made the online qualifiers list by setting the second fastest time in the final event. He will be at Kyalami this weekend hoping to make it through to the next round like everyone else. Keep up to date on this weekend’s activities by following @topcar on twitter and @topcar_ashley
