Look, I’ve driven the Megane RS now in Sport, Cup and Trophy trims and quite literally have the t-shirt. I’ve compared it to other hot hatches, raced one up a mountain pass and so on, and can honestly say that I can’t see any room (or need) for improvement. So when the task came about of creating a homage to their Red Bull Formula One car, the manufacturer can do little more than give it a bespoke graphic kit. It’s not unlike the Trophy 265 we’ve driven last month, so it too benefits from the 195kW two litre turbo. The RB7 is lathered in Etoile Black paint with Sirius Yellow accents and details such as a chequered flag roof decal further differentiates it from its siblings. Stop/Start technology has been implemented for a greener footprint, whereas the RS Monitor and limited slip differential returns as a reminder that this is still ultimately a pedigreed race machine. This won’t be any quicker than the brilliant Trophy, but that’s ok. This is one limited edition that will sell out before it lands.
