Prices: Volvo V40 Cross Country

Volvo Car SA’s V40 Cross Country is scheduled to arrive in SA in March, but prices and specifications have already been released.
Following the launch of the all-new V40 in 2012, the Cross Country version adds rugged styling and versatility and is now available to order at Volvo shops. Cars will be available to test drive,Volvo Car SA said, from March 8, 2013.
Distinctions between the V40 hatch and Cross Country include a ride height higher by 40mm, wheels up to 19-inch and contrasting black bumpers.
Other details handy when venturing into off road include roof rails, a rear backrest that folds flat and an optional ‘extra floor’ in the load compartment.
Furthermore, an armrest storage unit plus additional storage areas scattered throughout the cabin and a chilled cubbyhole are other useful features. Seven cabin mood light options are supplied via LED lamps.
The V40 Cross Country is offered with all-wheel drive on the T5 petrol turbo engine (187kW/400Nm with 40Nm overboost), while the T4 (132kW/270Nm with 30Nm overboost) is front-wheel driven.
The T5 is fitted with a six-speed automatic gearbox while the T4 comes with the option of either six-speed dual-clutch automatic or manual transmissions.
Diesel options extend to the five-cylinder two-litre D4 (130kW/400Nm) and the D3 (110kW/350Nm). Both diesel are available with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Additionally, all variants are equipped with start-stop and brake energy regeneration technology.
