Mercedes says the C-Class Cabriolet represents an attractive entry point into the family of Mercedes‑Benz convertibles which stretches all the way to the newly introduced S-Class Cabriolet and along the way includes the four-seater E-Class and two-seat roadsters: the SLC and SL.
Based off the C-Class Coupe, the new Cabriolet features a fully automatic fabric soft top that can be opened and closed in 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50kph, and is available in four colours for the preening peacocks among you. And if you’re worried about driving in wintery conditions, the optionally available Aircap electric draught stop system and the Airscarf neck-level heating should put pay to that worry.
The C-Class Cabriolet range stretches from the four-cylinder diesels and petrols, to the C43 AMG V6, all the way to V8-powered C63 S. That means anything from 125 to 375kW. The range breaks down as follows:
Two four-cylinder petrols are available in the C200 (135kW/300Nm) and perkier C300 (180kW/370Nm), costing R705 552 and R810 574 respectively.
The oil burning C220d (125kW/400Nm) will consume 4.8l/100km, produce 124g/km CO2 while retailing for R794 356. If you enjoy the sounds of a canal boat when you stow the roof.
The new and sprightly addition to the range is the C43 AMG 4Matic which promises to be the pick of the bunch with 270kW/520Nm from its 3.0-litre V6. It’ll sprint to 100kph in 4.8sec and top out at 250kph, all for the asking price of R1 048 336.
Finally to top the range off there are the AMG versions; the AMG C63 brandishing the 4.0-litre V8 producing 350kW/650Nm, a 0-100kph sprint time of 4.2sec and an asking price of R1 451 700. Before the top-of-the-pile C63 S 375kW/700Nm blasts onto the scene, shaving 0.1sec of its 4.1sec sprint time to 100kph and retailing for R1 571 072.
Mercedes says it will be able to absorb all that power because the C-Class Cabrio’s suspension was designed for dynamic performance with the standard Agility Control suspension and optional Airmatic air suspension also on offer.
Other optionally available goodies include Aircap and Airscarf for R9 500, Driving Assistance package for R31 500, Head-up display R15 900, Burmester surround sound system R11 000, AMG Line Exterior R25 500 and AMG Line Interior R14 200.
