Mazda will work with Fiat (Alfa Romeo) to create the next rear-wheel drive roadster. It will be based on Mazda’s next generation MX-5 architecture and fit in under the Alfa Romeo 4C plans.
Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ has recently joined the cheap and fun sports car bandwagon so competition in this market has intensified.
The good news is that Alfa Romeo’s will again be rear-wheel driven and probably shake off the ‘bad reliability’ stigma, whilst Mazda may benefit from Alfa’s driving thrill that the current MX5 has lacked in comparison to the predecessor.
Both marques will use their own engines and the plan is to have these vehicles in production by 2015.
