The new Audi RS Q3 is the first ever Audi SUV to be handed over to the specialists at Audi high performance subsidiary quattro GmbH for the full, no-holds-barred RS treatment. One of the Audi stand stars at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show, the new 228kW, 250kph RS Q3 will be available in the latter half of 2013.

At the heart of this RS is the 2.5-litre TFSI engine from the TT RS and RS 3 Sportback, linked exclusively to a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission. The turbocharged direct-injection unit produces its 228kW peak at between 5200 and 6700rpm, and maximum torque of 420Nm between 1500 and 5200rpm. These figures translate into a 0-100kph sprint time of just 5.5 seconds.

For the first time, the already highly efficient five-cylinder engine is also complemented by a standard start-stop system which, along with a regulated oil pump that only supplies lubricant when needed, contributes to fuel economy – up to 8.8l/100km is possible according to the combined cycle test, equating to CO₂ output of 206g/km.

RS-specific sports suspension lowers the body by 25mm compared to the standard suspension, and which is tuned to deliver flat cornering without forsaking everyday ride comfort.

  An Audi too far perhaps? Using the scale of the cost of a top of the range Audi model (not the S) compared to the RS model I would recon model would will probably come in at around R660k give or take a few R10k’s. That more or less the same cost as a Porsche Cayenne entry level with roughly the same power. I would rather get the more capable Porcshe and I’m sure so would a lot of people. I love Audi but methinks this might be a bit of a pointless car. Correct me if I’m missing the bigger picture here.
