When former Lamborghini design chief Luc Donckerwolke was tasked with reshaping the brand for the new millennium, he crafted two of the most dramatically desirable supercars on the planet in the Murciélago and the Gallardo. With a change in personnel and new models due, the question is where to from here?
Romanian Iulian Bumbu thinks he has the answer. His Insecta proposal represents a vision for a new mid-engined Lamborghini supercar. Inspiration comes from nature, particularly the insect world – hence the name. Iulian says he studied the exoskeletons found in certain insects and integrated a feeling of organic movement into Lambo’s current geometrical style. The Insecta was packaged around the current V10, so its dimensions closely mirror those of the Gallardo. With body panels exquisitely shaped in virtual carbonfibre, the end result is full of drama and achingly desirable – both unmistakable Lamborghini traits. We’re sure Ferruccio would approve.
