Two-time Engen Volkswagen Cup championship winner Mathew Hodges (27) will contest the Hankook 12-hour endurance race at Zandvoort, Holland, on 30-31May with British-based Saxon Motorsport. Hodges has been invited to drive the BMW 150 GTR with team boss Nick Barrow and Clint Bardwell.
Hodges is no stranger to Saxon Motorsport having scored a class win at the Nurburgring 24-hour race in 2012 driving a BMW 135d. He also raced at Zandvoort when he was competing in the SEAT Cupra Cup in 2011.
Whilst the car he’ll be racing this year is again a 1 Series BMW, it is vastly different to the one he had at the Nurburgring and features a 5.0-litre V10 petrol engine which delivers around 450kW as opposed to the 300kW from the 3.0-litre twin turbo diesel engine in the 135d.
The event has a unique format in that it starts at 4pm on Friday and will be stopped at 7pm when all cars will enter parc ferme. The remaining 9-hours will be raced on Saturday. The Hankook 12-hour Zandvoort will enjoy full live coverage on www.radiolemans.com
